Chapter Twenty-Six

Elise

Leir led her back to his room, Elise too lost in thought to protest returning so soon.

Everything she had ever heard about alphas was how they took what they wanted, and how they lost control around unmated omegas. Yet each time Elise had protested and told Leir to stop, he did.

She studied his back as they walked, watching the muscles bunch and move through his shirt. He strode through the halls with his head high, back straight, and an easy swagger that spoke of power.

She hadn’t met Trevin in person, but from his pictures it seemed like he would be larger than Leir, yet she wasn’t sure that meant he would be stronger. Elise could tell Leir had fought for his life. Had built what he had from the ground up, working hard for every inch.

Trevin had been handed the world by being fathered by the right man. It was pure luck, but that didn’t mean he was lazy or spoiled. With an alpha for a father, there was a good chance he had been forced to fight, too.

She wondered how alike the two would be. While Leir may participate in illegal activities, he had an obvious sense of honor. She could only hope Trevin would too.

Walking into the room, her shoulders drooped, and she ducked her head as she passed Leir when he stopped inside the door. With nothing else to do, she sat on the end of the bed, Leir still staring at the wall.

He continued to stand like a statue, Elise growing uncomfortable with the silence. She would be surprised if he wasn’t upset with her. She was a bit disappointed herself, and she had been the one to stop him.

Elise had been lucky most of her life, avoiding male attention. Human alphas were rare, and aliens were even rarer in Low End, so she had only seen a few, and most of them from a distance.

The only time she had scented one was when she cleaned a room after they left, so being in the constant presence of Leir brought out a new side to her. He was a virile alpha in his prime and having his attention on her brought forward feelings she had never experienced before.

The beta males that had tried to get her attention were easy to ignore. She was always so busy and tired she’d never paid attention to any of them, and it didn’t take long for them to get the hint and leave her alone.

With her first heat approaching and being surrounded by Leir’s pheromones, her body was awakening to what it could be like to be with a male. Especially after what he had done the night before.

Elise’s cheeks flushed at the memory as she pressed her thighs together. She wanted to feel that again, and that’s why she told Leir to stop. If she let him keep touching her and making her want things, it would end up going too far.

Letting out a deep breath, she startled when Leir turned and left.
